The Texas Penal Code classifies misdemeanor offenses as Class A, Class B, and Class C.  Class C Misdemeanors are generally punishable by fine only.

However, a conviction for ANY misdemeanor offense may have collateral consequences other than that proscribed by statute. 


Class A Misdemeanors

Generally, these are punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a $4000.00 fine.


Class B Misdemeanors

Generally, these are punishable by up to 180 days in jail and/or a $2000.00 fine.
